Meet Josh

I got into this work because the mental side of racing always seemed like the hardest part — and the least talked about. I had to work through my own battles as a runner, and somewhere in that process I developed a deep fascination with the connection between the physical and mental. The more I explored it, the more I realized they couldn't be separated. That realization became my life's work.

Twelve years coaching endurance athletes at the NCAA level sharpened that lens. I watched talented, well-trained athletes hit ceilings that had nothing to do with fitness — and I wanted to understand why. So I went deep. I hold a Doctorate in Sport and Performance Psychology, a Master's in Counseling, and a World Athletics Level V Endurance Coaching certification. I'm a National Certified Counselor and a CMPC candidate. Today I teach Psychology at the university level and consult with professional and elite endurance athletes — including athletes sponsored by HOKA, Nike, and Brooks.

I work from a strengths-based, existential framework rooted in the belief that meaning drives performance. The athletes I work with aren't broken. They're capable of more than they're currently accessing — and they know it.

I live and train in Durango, Colorado. I work remotely with athletes across the country.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.
— Viktor Frankl
