“Live your life to the fullest; and then, and only then, die. Don’t leave any unlived life behind.” - Irvin D. Yalom
This is for you if…
You're a high performer — in sport, work, or life — and something is getting in the way. Maybe it's anxiety that won't quit. A season that went sideways. A transition that's harder than you expected. Relationships that keep hitting the same wall. Or just a persistent feeling that you're capable of more than you're currently accessing.
You're not broken. You're not weak. You just haven't had the right support yet.
Durango Peak Performance is built for active, driven adults who want real tools, real progress, and a therapist who gets how you think — and how you live.
Not your typical therapy office
Performance Oriented
Everything here is built around progress, not just processing. We identify what's getting in your way and build real skills to move through it.
Practical by design
No endless talking in circles. Sessions are focused, goal-directed, and grounded in evidence-based approaches — ACT, CBT, and existential frameworks that actually work.
Built for Durango
I live here, train here, and understand the culture. Whether you're a competitive athlete, an outdoor enthusiast, or just someone who takes their life seriously — you'll feel that immediately.
What we work on together
We're not here to just talk—we're here to build something timeless, strong, and consistent. With a blend of creativity, strategy, and heart, the goal is for therapy to come to life.
I work with adults navigating a wide range of challenges — anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity, relationships, performance pressure, and the mental side of sport. Sessions are 50 minutes, held in person in Durango or via telehealth.
My approach draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and existential frameworks —We focus on whats getting in your way, build real skills to move through it, and aim to do something meaningful. This isn't indefinite open-ended therapy. It's focused, practical, and built around your goals.
Individual Therapy
50-minute sessions, in person or telehealth. Focused, goal-directed, evidence-based. For adults ready to make real progress.
Athletes in Therapy
Not sport psychology consulting — this is therapy for athletes dealing with anxiety, identity, burnout, injury, or the emotional weight of competition. For when the mental game goes deeper than performance.
Telehealth — Colorado
Can't make it in person? I work with clients across Colorado via secure video. Same focused approach, wherever you are.
Hey, I’m Josh.
I'm a licensed counselor, sport psychologist, and lifelong runner based in Durango. I've spent my career at the intersection of mental health and performance — working with everyone from elite professional athletes to people just trying to get out of their own way in everyday life.
tI spent over a decade coaching NCAA endurance athletes. That experience taught me something that shapes everything I do in the therapy room: people don't struggle because they're weak. They struggle because nobody gave them the right tools.
I practice from an ACT, CBT, and existential framework — which basically means we figure out what's getting in your way, build skills to move through it, and keep asking the bigger question: what kind of life do you actually want to be living?
I live and train in Durango. I get this town. And I bring that into every session.

Your Questions, Answered
Q: I've never been to therapy. Is this going to be weird?
Probably not the way you're imagining. We're not going to spend 50 minutes talking about your childhood unless that's actually relevant. Sessions are focused, conversational, and goal-directed. Most people leave the first session thinking "that was more normal than I expected."
Q: I'm not sure I have a "real" problem. Is therapy even for me?
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from this work. Most of my clients are high-functioning people who know they're capable of more — and want real tools to get there. If something is getting in your way, that's enough.
Q: What's the difference between therapy and sport psychology consulting?
Sport psychology consulting focuses specifically on performance — race preparation, mental skills, competition mindset. Therapy goes deeper — anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, life transitions, and the emotional weight that affects everything including performance. Some people need one, some need both.
Q: How long will this take?
That depends entirely on what you're working on. Some people come for 8-12 focused sessions and walk away with what they need. Others find ongoing support valuable. We'll talk about that in our first session and set realistic expectations from the start.
Q: Do you take insurance?
I operate on a private pay basis. This keeps our work flexible, focused, and completely confidential — no insurance company involved in your care. I can provide a superbill if you want to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance provider.
Q: Are you supervised?
Yes — I hold an LPCC license in Colorado and practice under clinical supervision as required. This is standard for LPCC licensure and ensures you're receiving quality, accountable care.
Q: Do you offer telehealth?
Yes — I work with clients across Colorado via secure video. Same approach, same focus, wherever you are.
Ready to get started?
The first step is a free 15-minute consultation. We figure out what you're dealing with, whether we're a good fit, and what working together would actually look like. No pressure, no commitment.
